The purpose of Slay the Lake is to support horror authors, local businesses and our local LGBTQ+ communities. For our 2025 events we have chosen LGBTQ+ Center Lake County and Brave Space Alliance.
The LGBTQ+ Center Lake County is an open and affirming environment for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We provide support, education, resources, and advocacy to achieve a stronger and healthier world for LGBTQIA+ people and allies. With collaborative networking in Northern Illinois we will empower our community to provide a safe space to support and celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride, diversity, equity, visibility and community building.
Brave Space Alliance (BSA) is a Black trans-led LGBTQ+ Center on the South Side of Chicago that creates and provides affirming and culturally competent services for the entire LGBTQ+ community of Chicago. A small, brave group of individuals founded BSA in 2017 to fill the significant gap in advocacy, programs, and services that center and are led by trans and gender expansive people. Unfortunately, few organizations like BSA currently exist in Chicago, especially on the South Side. Rooted in our Four Pillars of Dignity of Health, Housing, Food, and Identity, BSA provides dignified essential services.
